how to select a font by a script or key
Hello
I basically want to use 2 fonts in my text. Selecting them via the GUI
is cumbersome since I have to dig to a long list of fonts.
Is there any script or function which I could bind to a key which allows
me to speed up this selection?
thanks

If you want to do anything repeatedly - such as, here, apply a
particular font - you should make life easy for yourself by creating
styles for each font. You could sensibly use character styles or
paragraph styles for this, depending on your needs.

Once you have defined your styles, yes:
o Go to Tools | Customize... | Keyboard.
o Under Category, expand Styles and select Character or Paragraph as
appropriate.
o Under Function, select your new style.
o Under Shortcut keys, select your chosen key combination.
o At top right, choose Writer or OpenOffice (generally).
o Click Modify.
I trust this helps.

You should define character or paragraph styles and apply them from
styles sidebar.

That's easy: new styles are saved in documents, so if you are editing
a different document (whether you have restarted OpenOffice or not)
you will not see your new style. If you want to use your new style
in other documents, you have two possible courses.
Load the style from the document in which you created it:
o In your target document, go to Format | Styles and Formatting (or
click the Styles and Formatting button in the Formatting toolbar, or
press F11).
o Click New Style from Selection | Load Styles... .
o Click From File... and browse to and open the source document.
Your created styles will now appear in your target (second) document.
Additionally, you can save the style in your default template, so
that all new documents have access to it:
o Start a new document from your existing default template and
proceed as above to load your new styles into it.
o Go to File | Templates > | Save..., give your new template a name
(probably in the My Templates category), and click OK.
o Go to File | Templates > | Organize..., open My Templates, and
select your new template.
o Click Commands | Set As Default Template, and Close.
Any newly created documents will now contain your new styles.
I trust this helps.

I found it: I have to click on the template, then I can select the option
*save as default template*
thanks

You need to have just the template itself selected, not anything
within it. Click it just once to select it.

That's no problem.

Thanks very much this worked nicely.

When I click commands I do not see the option *save as default
template*, I see only *printer settings*. (I am using still OO 3.2)

This is nifty, thanks, however for some reason I cannot save my new
style apropriately and there fore cannot find under function.
I created the style by choosing styles and formating clicking characters
styles, right mouse click new:
- chose a font and a name (I link it with default style, not sure
whether this is appropriate).
then when I click again on the style list I can see the new
style. However when I close and reopen OO, the new style has
disappeared.
What is my mistake?
thanks

Ok that is a good idea, with 2 shortcomings:
- it is still somehow cumbersome but better than clicking into the
font menu.
- for some reason the style I create a new one is not loaded when
opening a new document.
thanks
