Areas and 2D
To make it a little clearer where I am headed with alt-design and Java
2D, and why I was so interested in SVGGraphics2D, see the attached diagram.
All of the geometry of areas is represented by Rectangle2D objects. The
geometry is represented by the lilac classes which extend the Area inner
class AreaGeometry, which itself extends Rectangle2D.Double. All the
renderable content of areas will be contained in these Java 2D classes.
All of the geometrical methods of these classes are available for
manipulating the geometry of page area trees. With such a structure,
rendering to Java 2D GraphicsDevices is supported by the rendering
methods on these classes. If SVGGraphics2D, PSGraphics2D,
PDFGraphics2D, etc, are available, the same methods are available to
directly render the page trees to the renderer's output medium.
