Have you ever used {{perf}}?
We also provide the ability to turn on google perftools' CPU profiler via an endpoint '/profiler/start' and '/profiler/stop' (but you must explicitly enable this feature when configuring).

Both of these are sampling profilers and impose a much lower overhead than gprof to my knowledge.
