Write the data outside of the portlet

Hello,

We can modify the preferences of the portlet with JSR-168 specif., but I 
would modify this
out of the portlet.
Can I modify preferences with an interface of The PLUTO Container , or 
the PLUTO portal?
If is not possible, how do you provide write access to the data stored 
outside of the portlet?
