Robert,

 I cannot reproduce your error. It works just fine for me using the latest CVS.
Your stack trace indicates a problem building a DTM for the input document
"xml.xml", way before the document() function is evaluated. Could you please
verify your environment? If using JDK 1.4, have you copied the latest jar into
jre/lib/endorsed?
