Configuration for time period for change password dialog

Hello,

before a password/credential expires the change password portlet is
displayed automatically.
I noticed in my installation the portlet starts to be displayed after
login two days before expiration date.

I have 2 questions regarding this feature:

- can this time period be configured ?

- what component in the login prozess is responsible for checking and
displaying the change passwort portlet?
