I have LibreOffice, not OpenOffice, on Xubuntu 13.10. The computer is a
pretty state of the art System76 laptop. From cold boot the launch time
for LO Writer is less than one second. I just click and there it is.

BTW I wonder if OSX has the 'time' command to be able to have accurate
readings of the openoffice process.

For that you need to pipe time with openoffice and close it almost as
soon as it opens.

Further reading about cold-startup tests performed in 3.x
(unfortunattely mainly focused on Windows).

My earlier findings on Xubuntu indicated opening times close to 10 or 12 seconds. If I enabled the Quickstarter, these times dropped to 4 seconds.
