beginners help with the mod_perl_rules[1,2].pl script
I have created two files for testing before moving on to the next step in
mod_perl.
The two files are
http://209.25.194.147/eric/perl/mod_perl_rules1.pl
http://209.25.194.147/eric/perl/mod_perl_rules2.pl
They are exactly as shown on the
http://perl.apache.org/docs/1.0/guide/getwet.html#A_Sample_Apache__Registry_
Script
page.
As one can see from the page, the output is showing all programming
characters (ie, ';' '$r->' etc).
I see that after the "successful" run/loading of these pages one makes the
config changes in Apache. And, I don't see any place that I need to add
anything to Apache before testing with the above two tests.
My perl is 5.8 and my Apache is 1.3.27 with mod_perl 1.27/php
4.3.1/frontpage 2002. mod_perl is a DSO as are fp and php. The OS is
Solaris 9.
Any help or pointers would be great.
Thanks
eric

That's because you set up mod_perl to work on /perl/* but you are using
URLs like /eric/perl/*.
Try this:
http://209.25.194.147/perl/mod_perl_rules1.pl

For some reason, I thought that the Apache addition was after the script
testing. Sorry about that.
I changed the httpd.conf file with this:
Alias /perl/ /usr/local/apache/sites/default/eric/perl/
PerlModule Apache::Registry
<Location /perl/>
SetHandler perl-script
PerlHandler Apache::Registry
Options +ExecCGI
PerlSendHeader On
allow from all
</Location>
and restarted Apache. I am still seeing the same page/characters as before.
I also see nothing in the error_log. I do see a normal request in the
access_log though, again, same as before. (Just for grins and giggles, I
closed and re-opened my IE just to be sure nothing was chached.)
thanks
eric

You have to modify httpd.conf as described earlier on that same page:
http://perl.apache.org/docs/1.0/guide/getwet.html#Configuring_and_Starting_the_mod_perl_Server
