Question on logging

Guys,
      We want to use log4j and chainsaw.From the website it seems
like log4j1.3 is the version i need to use to use chainsaw v2.When is
log4j v1.3 expected to be released( i know currently alpha is
released).Is it advisable to use alpha version and later use the final
version when it is released.
Or is it a good idea to use log4j current version and a previous
version of chain saw.If so where can i get the previous version of
chain saw and is it compatibale with the current version of log4j
