Website refresh (was Re: [DISCUSS] Adding Google Analytics to our website)

Bob, I think a refresh of the Geode website is a great idea. I look forward to hearing more of your ideas. I’ve included a link below [1] to provide context on ASF policies around websites.

Thanks,
Anthony

I also help with community marketing at RabbitMQ (rabbitmq.com), which uses their platform to host tutorials, best practices, and other content. I could find $$$ in my budget to help modernize the Geode site and make it more generally useful as a content platform for developers and others interested in the project.

Bob,

Your ideas are welcome! I do like the idea of an aggregation point for Geode content. Our past experience with the Apache JRoller blog site was…not the best. We do have some content aggregated in the wiki [1] but it’s not a great content platform either.

My main concerns are a) ensuring PMC control of any Geode-branded site and b) that any source code artifacts for this site are hosted on ASF-managed infrastructure (e.g. apache GitHub) and c) that site contributions are made via our normal contributor model of accepting PR’s.

+1 from me assuming those concerns are incorporated into this effort

Thanks,
Anthony

My goal is actually to help increase the size and reach of the Geode community with a place to post blogs, videos, and other collateral featuring best practices, tutorials, use cases, and the like. The current Geode site infrastructure doesn't seem well-suited to that. I'm thinking of something like what CouchDB did. They have the official Apache site for the project, and a separate site hosted on wordpress (blog.couchdb.com) for promotional activities. That way they can conform to ASF website practices for the project site while having a useful marketing site.

Thanks.

I have marketing funds available for this type of work (that I need to use up soon-ish). I just need the buy in and approval of the Geode community to submit an SOW to the purchasing system. What do you think is the best way to proceed?

I can also fund a refresh of the project site in parallel, but I want to tread lightly as that's your thing. So I will look to the community for guidance as to what you'd like to see improved on the main project site.

Best regards,
Bob

It would be great if the new webpage could include a search button for the user guide.
