I'm closing this for now, as this is an isolated problem (IMHO probably a printer driver/firmware problem) that you said isn't really that important. If you're using the 1.8 version for production, the best is to test the snapshot versions from time to time, or the pre-release versions that are announced at least 3 days before release in the user list or on the lehmi twitter timeline.
