Josh Rosen resolved SPARK-609.
------------------------------
    Resolution: Incomplete

I'm going to close out this issue for now, since I think it's no longer an issue in recent versions of Spark. Please comment / reopen if you think there's still something that needs fixing.

> How can I enable Akka debug logging in Spark? I tried setting {{akka.loglevel = "DEBUG"}} in the configuration in {{AkkaUtils}}, and I also tried setting properties in a {{log4j.conf}} file, but neither approach worked. It might be helpful to have instructions for this in a "Spark Internals Debugging" guide.
