Transactions per second

>From my limited experience with JMeter, it appears that for testing web
applications, the major metric that one can measure is response time for a
"hit" or a "whole page".  Other load testing tools I've seen seem to put
more emphasis on "pages/sec" or "transactions/sec" that the server is able
to handle.  Is this something that will eventually get measured by JMeter?
Or is it already there and I just didn't see it?
