- I think bigtop-0.5 is extremely old. The recent ones are bigtop 0.8 and so on. The latest deb/yum repos are here : http://bigtop01.cloudera.org:8080/view/Releases/job/Bigtop-0.8.0/
- simply adding the repo in those links to your package manager should be sufficient for you to do something like `apt-get install spark` and so on.
- As a first test of bigtop - maybe you can try out our vagrant recipes ? Thats the easiest way to get started. If you want more info on bigtop internals, you can watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GfcKEjO6e8
