### Feature Request / Improvement
In Iceberg's TableMetadata JSON file, all historical snapshot information, schema information, and SortOrder information are stored in a single file. If there is a large amount of historical data, loading this JSON file can take a considerable amount of time. If the information corresponding to each ID is split and written into separate files, and the TableMetadata JSON only retains pointers to these files, loading information on demand, then performance should be significantly improved.

This has been suggested a lot of times but we tend to have not moved in this direction and our recent work going towards the REST Spec has further deprioritized this since catalogs can now store that information however they like and not as a single blob. I think we are still having lots of discussions on how to limit the size of the loadTable response though
