[jira] [Created] (WICKET-3596) Problem with ajax requests in rc3 with browsers other than chrome

Problem with ajax requests in rc3 with browsers other than chrome
-----------------------------------------------------------------

                 Key: WICKET-3596
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/WICKET-3596
             Project: Wicket
          Issue Type: Bug
            Reporter: Martin Cassidy

When making simple ajax requests (apart from in chrome) using rc3 no response is being returned.

Strangely enough, after making the request, and then refreshing the page everything is fine.

The tomcat is producing this error:

ERROR - DefaultExceptionMapper - Unexpected error occurred

[jira] [Commented] (WICKET-3596) Problem with ajax requests in rc3 with browsers other than chrome

Posted by "Barrett Snyder (JIRA)" <ji...@apache.org>.
    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/WICKET-3596?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=13025319#comment-13025319 ]

Barrett Snyder commented on WICKET-3596:
----------------------------------------

I ran into the Wicket.functionExecuterCallbacks issue and determined it is due to the wicket-ajax.js resource being pulled in via an AJAX form submission response. This redefines the variable, thus losing the state and then not pulling in any resources that were after wicket-ajax.js in the AJAX response. This issue exists in 1.4.17 and could be fixed by either not reloading wicket-ajax if it is already loaded, as Martin stated they fixed in r1091444, or within wicket-ajax.js make sure the Wicket.functionExecuterSeq and Wicket.functionExecuterCallbacks variables are not reset if they already exist. Something like this may fix it:

Wicket.functionExecuterSeq = Wicket.functionExecuterSeq || 0;
Wicket.functionExecuterCallbacks = Wicket.functionExecuterCallbacks || {};

-----------------------------------------

It works here with FF4 and IE6.
I'm starting to think that it is something with your browsers.

Martin Cassidy commented on WICKET-3596:
----------------------------------------

Its working much better now - but not perfectly I'm afraid. I'm now getting this error

Error: Wicket.functionExecuterCallbacks.script1 is not a function
Source File: http://localhost:8080/UniOrders/?5
Line: 2487

There is no longer an error on the tomcat log and the ajax response xml is correct. But only some of the page is being updated. This now seem to be affecting chrome as well.

Thanks

I've just tried the wicket stuff page on my computer at home (also with firefox 4) same problem, also fixed by a page refresh after the initial ajax request. Getting a different error though:

---------------------------------------

It seems I can reproduce it with Chrome10, FF4, IE9, Opera11. Steps:

1. Delete jsessionid cookie for wicketstuff.org
2. Go to http://wicketstuff.org/wicket/ajax/tabbed-panel
3. Click "second tab" once. Nothing happens (ajax call is done response is received I can see it in sniffer but it is not loaded/rendered).
4. Click it again. Works like a charm.

I think it has to do with session creation/tracking (note the cookie delete step).

[jira] [Issue Comment Edited] (WICKET-3596) Problem with ajax requests in rc3 with browsers other than chrome

Stefan Schueffler edited comment on WICKET-3596 at 1/13/12 4:39 PM:

I just want to report the same behaviour in wicket 1.4.19
("Error: Wicket.functionExecuterCallbacks.script1 is not a function" on first page-load, and on all subsequent page loads it works like a charm).

- On first page load, wicket-event.js and wicket-ajax.js do have a ";jsessionid=..." parameter.
- When the user now clicks on some ajax-enabled link, the ajax-request gets triggered, and the xml-response from the server looks fine.
- In the xml-response there now is a header-contribution for wicket-ajax.js and wicket-event.js (without sessionid).
- The browser now loads both script-files again (without sessionid, utilizing the cookie instead), and then raising the javascript-exception mentioned earlier.

Can you try with Firefox or IE at http://wicketstuff.org/wicket/ajax ?
All these and the application I'm working on works OK with RC3/SNAPSHOT.

If the examples work then please attach a quickstart that shows the problem.

Hi Barrett,

This has been fixed in 1.5 with WICKET-3473 and WICKET-3641.
So far no one else reported it for 1.4.x. If you can create a quickstart that reproduces the problem then please attach it to WICKET-3473 and add a comment,
The fix in 3473 can easily be ported to 1.4.x, but the question is "Why wicket-ajax.js is delivered second time?" We need a test case to debug it.

Martin Cassidy commented on WICKET-3596:
----------------------------------------

I've tried the tab panel example with the patched jar and it works fine in all browsers. Do you know what might be causing that js error to occur in my application?

[jira] [Resolved] (WICKET-3596) Problem with ajax requests in rc3 with browsers other than chrome

Posted by "Martin Grigorov (JIRA)" <ji...@apache.org>.

Martin Grigorov resolved WICKET-3596.
-------------------------------------

       Resolution: Fixed
    Fix Version/s: 1.5-RC4

The original problem is fixed with r1091444.
Please open a new ticket for the other problem when you find a way to reproduce it.
Thanks!

The original problem was the following:
- initially the page is loaded with jsessionid in the url because there is no cookie
- all resources are loaded with jsessionid
- later Ajax response doesn't have jsessionid in the contributed resources' urls because there is a cookie already in use
- in wicket-ajax.js we make a check "is this resource already contributed?" and we ignore double contributions
- because of the jsessionid the check was negative for all wicket-***.js resources which caused they to be reloaded and all state information to be lost

I "translated" Strings.stripJSessionId() from Java to JavaScript.

Martin Grigorov commented on WICKET-3596:
-----------------------------------------

Wicket.functionExecuterCallbacks is something new in Wicket. It is included with RC3.
Looking in wicket-ajax.js there is no way to contain something different than a function.
That's why I need a quickstart that reproduces the problem.

[jira] [Issue Comment Edited] (WICKET-3596) Problem with ajax requests in rc3 with browsers other than chrome

Stefan Schueffler edited comment on WICKET-3596 at 1/13/12 4:38 PM:
--------------------------------------------------------------------

I just want to report the same behaviour in wicket 1.4.19
("Error: Wicket.functionExecuterCallbacks.script1 is not a function" on first page-load, and on all subsequent page loads it works like a charm).

On first page load, wicket-event.js and wicket-ajax.js do have a ";jsessionid=..." parameter.

When the user now clicks on some ajax-enabled link, the ajax-request gets triggered, and the xml-response from the server looks fine.

In the xml-response there now is a header-contribution for wicket-ajax.js and wicket-event.js (without sessionid).

The browser now loads both script-files again (without sessionid, utilizing the cookie instead), and then raising the javascript-exception mentioned earlier.

As I see this is not wicket-examples > ajax > tabbed panel.
Can you create a minimal quickstart that reproduces the problem and attach it to the ticket ?

Martin Cassidy commented on WICKET-3596:
----------------------------------------

Yes, I applied against the current trunk and rebuilt the jar. upon updating the jar in the project I rebuilt and redeployed. When running the same ajax request that was causing the problem before some of the page is being updated, but some of it is not. The ajax response is however correct in that it contains all the elements to be updated that it should do - however only the first element is being updated. the component id="title33" is updating as it should, then it throws that javascript error.

<ajax-response><component id="title33" >
Services
</component><header-contribution encoding="wicket1" >

[jira] [Commented] (WICKET-3596) Problem with ajax requests in rc3 with browsers other than chrome

Posted by "Barrett Snyder (JIRA)" <ji...@apache.org>.
    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/WICKET-3596?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=13025416#comment-13025416 ]

Barrett Snyder commented on WICKET-3596:
----------------------------------------

It is an odd case where we include a wicket panel/page within a non-wicket, static page by loading the component via a jQuery AJAX call. jQuery loads scripts by adding them to head and then immediately removing them. The component contains an AJAX button for form submission, which is completely handled by wicket, and when the response returns it includes a reference to wicket-ajax.js in the head conrtibutions. The Wicket.Head.containsElement check does not see it as already being in head since jQuery removed it so the wicket js adds it again.

I solved the issue by adding dummy script elements to the head with a src_ attribute set to the script src via ajaxSuccess handling after jQuery initially loads each script. Now the script appears as already loaded and everything works as expected.

> When making simple ajax requests (apart from in chrome) using rc3 no response is being returned.

Martin Cassidy commented on WICKET-3596:
----------------------------------------

I've just had a few colleagues try it, firefox 3.6, firefox 4 (rc) and ie 8 with the same results. It doesn't work the first time but upon return to the page its fine. Perhaps if you close your browser and reopen it you'll be able to duplicate it.
