So, far I went at it from the other direction and updated the IDEA styles to do
what we would expect. The total count of Checkstyle errors went down, so we seem
to be moving in the right direction. When we have fewer Checkstyle errors, we
could tweak the IDEA styles a bit further. (Continuing to document the changes
as we go.) Of course, the same could be done with Eclipse or any other
reasonable IDE. 

I'd like to try to work with JetBrains, Eclipse, NetBeans, et al, to devise a
standard way to express code formatting rules, ideally, so that we could checkin
a configuration file that various tools could share.
