New Geronimo Website
The Epiq team has offered up a new look and feel for the Geronimo
website and I have the prototype running here:
http://people.apache.org/~bsnyder/site/
What would everyone think of using this new look and feel on the
website? Opinions, suggestions?
Thanks to Epiq for all the hard work!

Looks good Bruce. I'm with Blevins in that we update now and tweak as necessary.

I like it, assuming that the look and feel will be applied to all the
other pages, e.g. the download page etc. (not just the front page).

I agree that we should get this implemented as soon as possible and then
continue to tweak things to clean it up.
I also agree with Hernan that we need some better organization of
content. Here are some comments that I included in the thread back in
early December when we first began to discuss the updated web site.
"I really like the tabs both on the bottom and the top of the banner,
but I think we need some criteria for what would get a tab on the bottom
vs. on the top vs. on the left or right of the main page. In the
mock-up there is a lot of duplicate links in these areas. Perhaps some
general guidelines like:
- "documentation/information" types of links on the right,
- process/community links on the left,
- primary Geronimo page views in the lower banner tabs (downloads,
subprojects, etc...)
- and perhaps action types of links on the top (email Geronimo, open a
problem, etc...).
These categories for the areas are just an initial suggestion - I'm sure
there are better organizations that others can recommend."
Thanks for another great set of proposals Epiq team!!!!

The templates Epiq developed looks great, but I also think that along with a look & feel update
there should be an overall site content update (reorganization and archiving included).

Absolutely!
I vote we roll this out now and tweak if needed later.

I have not even thought about how to incorporate the other content.
What I'd like to do is convert the current site into a Maven site
first, and then convert the rest of the site to use the new
stylesheets.

+1 for Hernans idea on organizing the content.
How are we going to do that?? move the content from confluence over here or
provide a link to confluence.
Besides are we going to maintain the same structure as we have now in the
confluence site?

I think the site needs to be reorganized but I don't think the new look and feel
and reorganization are necessarily linked. Bruce, I vote to update our site and
then call for volunteers to organize. I'd volunteer but I already had to move
to a larger house to keep all my unfinished projects :)

The new look and feel is contained in CSS and some some images, so
there is some work required. The entire site will need a fair amount
of surgery. Beyond that, my goal would be to make the site build via
Maven in one way or another.

Hi Bruce,
Whow, awesome! I like it very much, much better than our current web
page layout. However, since other projects build their web sites with
Maven or another web publishing toolkit (Forrest or so) how could we
bring them together - Maven and the new layout - and automate the
process of generating the site. I remember that at the moment, we need
to update two dirs (docs and xdocs) whenever something is being
changed.
Or perhaps, I had missed it and the website updates are already being
done using a tool of some kind?
