automatic inclusion of classes in Tomcat's classpath

Hello,

Apologies for the newbie question - I'm a new Tomcat user, and was
wondering
about automatic inclusion of new classes i.e. used by a WAR file, in
Tomcat's classpath.
I've tried adding these classes to the Tomcat/classes directory as
described in the
user guide, but to no avail Tomcat cannot find them at runtime. So does
this automatic
search for new classes by Tomcat exist, or will I stick with manually
chaning the classpaths?
