namespaces, prefixes, bug?

Hello,

Here's what I'm doing: 

-Parse document
-Fiddle with document as DOM
-Serialize Document (don't care where it goes)

My problem is that when I have namespaces turned on the namespace prefixes
are stripped of in my output.

if the input tag is something like:
<foo:tag image="none" />

It gets serialized as:
<tag image="none" />

Why am I losing the prefix? Is this a bug or expected behavior? Calling
getPrefix() returns null, and I've verified that the node in question is in
fact an ElementNSImpl. Of course this isn't a problem with namespaces turned
off, but I require the namespace support. 

I've had this problem with both 1.1.1 and 1.1.2.  Any ideas?.
