This is still a problem with 3.0.1. I'll attach my simple module as well, but I see:
{{[ERROR] no module descriptor for parent:parent}}
The workaround suggested above of removing the *module-info.java* files is not at all satisfying because doing that you lose out on the module metadata presented in Javadoc.
