Ports internally used by active Mq

Hello Active Mq Users ,
Our application currently uses active mq 4.0.1
version. We use an embedded broker along with durable subscribers and
topic publishers.

Active MQ also uses ports internally which are not configurable, these
ports are randomly allocated.

For these ports ,Does active mq take into account that if the port
which it needs to use is already occupied , will it try allocating a
different port ?

Please let me know, we need this information because when our
application is on the production machine , we do not have a control as
to which ports are available.

thanks,
Suchitha

What about the multicast discovery port for example?
It seems to default to 6155, but I did not find it documented anywhere nor
did I find a possibility to change it by configuration.

I also found another server port opend by ActiveMQ, a TCP port apparently
randomly chosen that I can find absolutely no explanation for. Is there a
list of all the ports that ActiveMQ opens? It would be great to have
something like that for firewall configuration.

Regards
Linda

On the broker side, the ports are well defined in the activemq.xml
(the <transportConnector> elements) - plus JMX often creates an RMI
port.

On the client side, available ports are used by the TCP stack as a
client side TCP socket is opened; these are not configured, the OS
takes care of it.

Nerd disclaimer: It's sometimes possible. :)

If you're talking about random local ports like the ones used for JMX
(RMI), the OS selects them. You can't bind two sockets to the same
address-port pair. If it was the case that something didn't check if a
port was already in use, and it was, it wouldn't even work.
