Do you have a copy of the JDBC Optional package JAR file in your system
extensions directory ($JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/ext)?  If so, it could cause problems
like this -- please try it without that file.

The usual filename is "jdbc2_0-stdext.jar", but you might also have renamed it
to something else.
