[I] [Feature] Add missing gates to QuMat: S, S-dagger, T-dagger, CZ, Phase [mahout]
400Ping opened a new issue, #1511:
URL: https://github.com/apache/mahout/issues/1511
### What
`QuMat` currently exposes these gates: `not`, `hadamard`, `cnot`, `toffoli`, `swap`, `cswap`, `pauli_x`, `pauli_y`, `pauli_z`, `t`, `rx`, `ry`, `rz`, `u`.
Several common gates are missing. This issue tracks adding them, one gate per pull request:
- [ ] `apply_s_gate` (S, phase of π/2)
- [ ] `apply_sdg_gate` (S-dagger)
- [ ] `apply_tdg_gate` (T-dagger)
- [ ] `apply_cz_gate` (controlled-Z)
- [ ] `apply_phase_gate` (Phase P(λ), accepting a float or a parameter name like `rx`)
### Why
S, S†, T† and CZ show up in most textbook circuits and in standard transpilation targets, and the Phase gate is needed for parameterized feature maps. Users currently have to drop down to the underlying SDK to use them, which defeats the point of the unified API.
### How
Follow the pattern of `apply_t_gate`:
1. Add `QuMat.apply_<gate>_gate` in `qumat/qumat.py`.
2. Implement it in all three backends: `qumat/qiskit_backend.py`, `qumat/cirq_backend.py`, `qumat/amazon_braket_backend.py`.
3. Add a row to `docs/qumat/basic-gates.md`.
4. Add a test in `testing/qumat/test_single_qubit_gates.py` or `test_multi_qubit_gates.py` that checks the state vector on all backends.
Claim a gate by commenting with its name so two people do not pick the same one.

Ok, I understand. So I don't need to sign ICLA.
I'll start working on `apply_s_gate` now.

Hi, I'd like to claim `apply_s_gate`.
I'll follow the `apply_t_gate` pattern: implement it in `qumat/qumat.py` and the Qiskit, Cirq and Braket backends, add a row to `docs/qumat/basic-gates.md`, and add a state-vector test that runs on all backends.
Two quick questions before I start:
1. Is an ASF ICLA expected for a small change like this, or only for larger contributions?
2. Since this issue tracks several gates, I plan to reference it as "Part of #1511" in the PR so it stays open. Let me know if you prefer a different convention.
Thanks!
