Server requirements for Web Apps

Hello Wicket devs,

I would like to know what your server requirements are.
What is your experience in different use cases?
Is one server enough (Tomcat, DB, Spring, messaging) or do you use different
servers for different components?
What is a typical scenario for you?

It can be a short answer :-).

best regards

Would like to use JCR with my MySQL DB, but Hibernate for other Objects too.

Hello Martijn,

I am working on a private project. I use tomcat, wicket, spring a mysql
database,
and I want to use a jcr, too. The project will get online. (uploading data,
recommend data to users...)
But I do not have any experience how such a combination will perform
(memory,
db sessions, jcr etc.).
I think you guys have more experience how such a configuration will perform
in average.

best regards

I use a p3 500 mhz 512 mb ram for my private projects (
wheresmyevent.com and exerciselog.eu ), my requirement are low psu usage
which are somewhere around 10-15 watt... Thats been enough so far, but
on the other hand loads very low..

It highly depends on your load and what you are doing.. Theres no silver
bullet on this one.. Buy a server and if it's not enough upgrade :) Of
course you can do some load testing to estimate etc..

Re: Server requirements for Web Apps

Hi,

I'm running www.szeretgom.hu on a two year old Sun Fire X2100 (1.8 ghz
dual core Opteron, 4 GB RAM) running OpenSolaris, Postgresql,
Glassfish v3 Prelude. The application runs on Wicket 1.4rc1 using
EclipseLink with default settings. The application is a custom
developed, JPA based web CMS with some social networking functions -
it's a spare time project, I'm not making any money with it right now
(more info: http://www.metaprime.hu/users/cserepj/luther.pdf).

I'm seeing a maximum of 0.1-0.2 load on the server when 20-25 users
are online. I'm just about to start preparing some jmeter scripts to
test the scalability of the site, if you're interested in the results
just let me know...
