Yes, Sun is leading this JSR and will provide the RI.

I started a thread on the jcp-open mailing list two months ago asking for advice representing this JSR. Unfortunately, I was not given a response - only a comment about a few profit corporations.

I don't understand how a readonly list equates to software licensing considering that many apache mailing lists are moderated and there are private lists for each community?

> The ASF does not do any development on closed lists.

As I understand it, that would be true here, too:

> this is a list that gets emails from the original JSR discussion list.
> But, those that are subscribed to this list, aren't able to respond.

So a read-only archive of the EG traffic.

My complaint is that this JSR is closed again. I thought that we had determined after the JSR-168 fiasco, that we would not participate on JSRs that did not do their development in the open.

[jira] Closed: (INFRA-1335) Need a not-public mailing list for JSR 314

Roy T. Fielding closed INFRA-1335.
----------------------------------

    Resolution: Won't Fix

The ASF does not do any development on closed lists. Why the request was made is irrelevant.
If individuals want to participate on a closed EG, they can do so on their own behalf.

This is quite a new request - we've not got any private lists for discussing JSRs besides the TCK ones.

Have you discussed this with Geir?

>Haven't we determined that we will not participate in closed JSRs? This is not something that the JCP should be doing.

Please elaborate... I had not realized there was an official ruling on this. I've been trying to follow the debates on ASF's position. There has been talk of lawsuit, withdrawing from the JCP and just mandating that all ASF JSR representation vote -1 on all issues (but not based on technical or legal credibility). Is ASF only interested in participating in JSR's that they can dictate the "correct" process? Or, are we just against any specification that imposes field of use restrictions and we really don't care how the spec leads run the JSR?
