How to map entire directory through servlet?

Sorry as this is rather not a Tomcat-related question but Servlets in
general:

I want that every access to http://host/path/file.html is translated to
http://host/servlet/I18NServlet/path/file.html, for each file in <path>
(background: the servlet chooses a translated version of the page).

I tried <servlet-mapping> in web.xml, but I just can't get it to work.
Any help is appreciated.
