[jira] [Commented] (HDDS-4718) Bootstrap new SCM node

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HDDS-4718?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=17267730#comment-17267730 ]

Glen Geng commented on HDDS-4718:
---------------------------------

> First step would be to update the ozone-site.xml with the configs  for the new SCM.

Since DNs send heartbeat to all SCMs, I consider we have to change the ozone-site.xml not only for the SCM cluster, but also all the DNs. Manually changing is not feasible for a huge HDDS cluster, SCM should let DNs to change the ozone.scm.names field in their ozone-site.xml.

> In a SCM HA cluster, the idea here is to add support to bootstrap a new SCM node and add it to SCM ratis ring.
> First step would be to update the ozone-site.xml with the configs  for the new SCM.
> The new node(s) should be started in BOOTSTRAP mode using the following command. This command will also initialize the SCM. Hence, no need to run scm init command before this command.
>  {{ozone scm --bootstrap}}
> After the new SCM is bootstrapped, we need to run the command something like this:
>  {{ozone admin scm addscm -nodeids=<commad-separated-list-of-new-scm-node-ids>}}
> This command will add new SCM to the ratis ring. The new SCM(s) will receive the snapshot and ratis logs from the leader and start participating in the ratis ring.
