[users@httpd] Trying to run apache from a standalone windows PC
Please can someone help me? I'm trying to run apache 1.3 on a standalone windows 2k PC. I have apache running ok, along with PHP but when i try to pull up the home page thru IE it won't service the request because I don't have a connection.
I'm guessing that this should be a nobrainer but I can't find the answer anywhere.
If anyone knows of an FAQ, please let me know where it is? If its something else, throw all the abuse you want to at me, but please can you let me know the probable cause at the same time.
thanks,
Tina (apache newbie)

I don't see any problem.

I got Apache 2 with php no problem. I know there are different versions
of php. Obviously, Apache 2 needs different php than Apache 1.3.

Then I don't think the dll matters.

You meant you still got 'no connection' on first loading? If so, it is
weired than nothing shows in the error.log.

This may not helps, but anyway, can you find the following line from
your WINNT\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file:
127.0.01 localhost

Bao,

Access log entry for http://localhost/ request:
127.0.0.1 - - [15/Aug/2003:18:07:52 +0100] "GET / HTTP/1.1" 200 1494
127.0.0.1 - - [15/Aug/2003:18:07:52 +0100] "GET /apache_pb.gif HTTP/1.1" 304 -
Error log: no entries.

The php site recommends 1.3, I've also got to get a couple of other packages on there as well so yes, its old but hopefully i'll be less likely to get integration issues.
Sorry - the dll's, they're php. I've commented them out, rebooted/restarted and its still doing the same thing (the log file above was taken after I'd done this).
I'm still wondering if its a naming issue but can't see it after going through the docuementation (still looking).

I don't have any idea what the 'windows DLLs' change is, and don't
understand either why you need this change in the first place. Can you
show us the part of the change you did to the httpd.conf file?

Bao,
I'm trying to get the home page from the same PC. Today, I'm wondering if its a naming issue, this is whats happening:
- on requesting http://127.0.0.1/, the browser 1st gives a "no connection" message then on a retry gives the apache "install ok" page.
- the error log shows a redirection (304) on the requests.
This is a standard 1.3 install, the only change to the config file is the addition of the windows DLLs [I haven't changed the home page location yet]. I would welcome a hint on what to look at/where to go next.
Many thanks,
Tina
