Formatting dates

Hi,
  I'm using XMLBeans to do RPC with another application. Unfortunately,
the other app has a broken XML implementation that doesn't understand
dates with timezones. It chokes on any date of over 10 characters. Is
there any way to specify the formatting XMLBeans uses to render dates?
