to reproduce NPE run the following
{code}
create table a as select 'A' letter;
OK

insert into table a select 'B' letter;
FAILED: NullPointerException null

-- works fine if add "from <table>" to select statement
insert into table a select 'B' letter from dual;
OK
{code}
