   That is some really good information. Intuitively I'd think that there is an issue specific to interaction with compression and the combiner(s). 
   One more thing I'd also love to see is the debug level log lines in error.log for a request which ends up with a bad response. (This would require rebuilding ngx_pagespeed `--with-debug`, see https://docs.nginx.com/nginx/admin-guide/monitoring/debugging/).
