printing SVGs

I've written a server application that converts XML documents to SVG and then prints them. Everything works great, except that it's very slow. The problem seems to be in java's printing API (please correct me if i'm wrong).

Has anyone dealt with this problem before? Is there another java based printing API that will work faster out there someplace? Has anyone found another solution?

We are currently using windows server 2003, but plan on moving to redhat soon.

Thanks,

Tom
