Running apache

Hi

I am having a problem setting up apache on my network. I have configured the httpd.conf file to set the server name as localhost. When I enter this into the browser I get the following message:
Host address not found. The proxy could not find an IP address for the host in your request. Possible causes include misconfigured DNS and transient network problems.
Even though I am trying to run this locally.
Please help, Thanks

Try 'netstat' from the command line.

On linux/unix, use the 'hostname'or 'uname' command to find out the machine
name.

No, localhost is a loopback address for the machine you are currently on. It is
equal to IP 127.0.0.1. You will need to use http://machinename to access the
server from another machine.

no! localhost means local host :-)

every single machine thinks localhost is itself...

if you connect to http://localhost/ with a browser, it will try to
connect to port 80 of the same machine it's running on...

hope this helps.

try disabling the proxy in your browser, or use the dns name of the
server instead of localhost.

localhost will work if and only if the client and the server run on the
same machine, and there's no proxy involved.

  Hi

I am having a problem setting up apache on my network. I have configured
the httpd.conf file to set the server name as localhost. When I enter this
into the browser I get the following message:
Host address not found. The proxy could not find an IP address for the

Even though I am trying to run this locally.
  Please help, Thanks
