I've identified the problem and is working on a solution. I've been in
the bed sick but is now back up so I expect a first stab at the fix
being done later today.

Thanks, I'll run the tests on Linux and see if I can fix it.

This should now be fixed in trunk. Thanks for reporting!

Hi
I have a bit of work to do but I have one error during building:
testMkdirInvalidDirectoryName (... ftpserver.clienttests.DirectoryTest)
returns 250 when it expected 550.
MKD foo:bar;foo
is successful!
If I run mkdir foo:bar;foo from the command line directory foo:bar is
created but the command foo cannot be executed (I am running FreeBSD and
; is a command separator).
I have not yet looked at FileObject as to why this would not cause an
error. For the time I have removed the test.
I am currently setting up a test deployment with my Ftplet and will get
back to you in the next few days.

Great!

What you could do, is to write an implementation of:
FileSystemManager
FileSystemView
FileSystemObject
This implementation would then take care of the communication with your
database. The pro with this approach is that you automatically get
support for all operations (listing, storing, retrieving and so on) not
just uploading.
We currently only have an implementation targeted for the file system,
however I would like to provide examples for databases (JDBC) and JMS.

Hi Niklas
In my specific case EDI documents are dropped in and picked up, and non
SQL transactions are performed on a proprietary database. I implemented
a solution with the available API with which we are happy.
Can you expand on the database file system?

I different (and perhaps better) approach would be to implement a
database backed file system, that would then support all file operations
towards the database. This would also be something that would be
interesting to ship with our distribution so if you need any help I
could be of assistance :-)

I've now commited the required changes and updated the FAQ:
http://cwiki.apache.org/FTPSERVER/faq.html
The API will probably need some more work before being completely done,
but the major changes are there. Feedback is of course welcome!
