ER: Map repo folder to local folder, copying repo tree is the default [was "Re: How to checkout only the tree structure of a repository"]

I have been evaluating (= fooling around) with Subversion and TortoiseSVN
with a view to replacing Visual SourceSafe for storing our documentation
files. A nice thing is that you can set a mapping from any project
(folder) in a VSS repository to a local folder. Then if you checkout or
get a deeply buried file that lies under that project, VSS automatically
builds the folder tree to the local working file.

I go nuts constantly navigating the local folder tree from drive letter
down in TSVN every time I check out a file newly added to the repository
by a colleague. This is particularly irksome in that we strictly enforce
a rule that a local folder tree must exactly match that in the repository
in case someone has to take over. (If writers want a sandpit to
experiment, they are encouraged to make a branch.) So the VSS ability to
map a repo folder to a local folder is really handy. Whenever you copy a
file, the dialogue proposes the default path as defined in the repo folder
tree so you can always override it to put a file in a different local
location.
