mvn artifacts ending up in build?

I noticed the following in tamahawk-1.1.2-SNAPSHOT.jar

META-INF.maven.org.apache.myfaces.tomahawk.pom.xml

I am completely new maven, but shouldn't this be kept out of the binary?
