Question on setting up datastores in Slide (SQL and XML)

We would like to be able to have two datastores, one relational
(Hypersonic SQL) and one XML database (not chosen yet). Ideally, most
of the metadata will be stored in the relational DB and the XML
documents themselves in the XML database.

We want to be able to:

A) run queries that span both of these datastores (i.e. both metadata
and content);
B) use transactions that would span data in both datastores as well as
operations on multiple items in each of the datastores;
C) version our documents;
D) embed all related software into our application (with the idea of
being able to run independently, e.g. in the context of an Eclipse
plug-in.

What would be the best way to implement this in Slide, given these
business requirements?

Which portions of Slide do we want to use? Should we be "talking" Slide
Webdav client API's or Slide API?

I'd appreciate any insite.
Thanks,

- Dmitry
