Newcomer component
It seems to me that "Newcomer" should be a flag, not a component. I
think of components as parts of the code. Is it possible to convert
this to a flag?
Thanks,
David

If you can't do a permanent link to a filter, then let's keep it as it is...

Except I don't think you can't get a permanent link to a saved JIRA filter.

That part is easy, with the bulk change operation.

That's a good point, but if we put a link to the JIRA filter for
newcomers on the newcomer Wiki page it shouldn't be too bad...
When entering a JIRA bug, the checkboxes are very easy to see and easier
to select than components, so that's a plus. That and it is more
accurate, IMHO.
The question I have, is how hard it is to convert bugs with Newcomer
component to bugs with the Newcomer checkbox...

That's fine with me, although then you don't have that nice "Newcomer"
listing on the front page of the Derby JIRA. Having to go through the
web interface to create a filter for the newcomer flag, or even get to
a global filter, puts quite a few steps between the newcomer and
issues that they could work on. I don't really have strong feelings
either way, though.
