Please use our issue tracker for attachments

Hi all,

lately people are posting attachments to this list, which is under
archive perspective the worst thing you can make. Most archives do not
show any attachments nor do they usually offer a way to download them.

This is the reason why we have an issue tracker which represents a
central place to drop this patches. Everybody can go there and download
the patch if (s)he is interested.

Do not get me wrong I am happy to see them coming but please use the
appropriate channels.

TIA

I totally agree with that.
Collecting all "suggestions" is hardly my idea of the purpose of an
"issue" tracker.

I also wonder how the "rapidshare -> porn" association comes into play
(of course I know where it comes from, but I cannot see why this is
relevant here).
And if really no one should send an attachment to the mailing list(s), I
suggest to disable this feature...

Using IMAP along with [PATCH] tag should help.

One of the reasons why people tend to use e-mail for posting patches instead of JIRA is that it's much easier to discuss
such patches.

When patch is sent to mailing list you can use all capabilities of your e-mail client like good quoting support (in-line
comments), threading, etc.

I believe that issue tracker should be used for patches that have been already assesed and there is an agreement on that
patch. It's only my opinion, though.

Like I said before not all support them.

Who is talking about that?

The point is that patches should not been sent to a ml. I am subscribed
to around 50 different ml and if I receive only one attachment (let us
say around 1 MB) from each list I have 50 MB overhead in my mailbox. The
push model is not suitable for patches!

The issue tracker however is the supposed place for patches! That is why
it is called issue tracker. Why do you have the impression it would play
the role of rapidshare? I always talked about patches and contributions
that are interesting for the project and never said you should upload
porn.

That is only feasible for committers but not for John Doe that do not
has an apache account and want to send a diff.

You seems are just using the wrong ones.

I don't think issue tracker was set up to play a role of rapidshare.
However, and that is especially true for the larger patches, your
personal space on people.apache.org can be used to exchange files
which are too large for email attachment.
