Discuss detailed steps needed for MetaModel release
Hi All,
In this thread we would like to discuss detailed steps still needed to
perform the first MetaModel release.
Stuff done so far : -
1. Set the right versions 4.0.0-incubating-SNAPSHOT in poms.
2. Prepared the signing key.
3. Fixed the Apache RAT failures.
4. JIRA ticket for Nexus access created.
5. Compared the pom with Apache Blur. - Differences found mainly in
distributionManagement and repositories section.
We still need the following: -
1. Verify that the distributionManagement node in pom.xml is pointing to
the right repository/snapshot repository.
2. Correct access is available to the release engineer performing release.
3. Infra ticket to set svn pubsub for publishing release artifacts.
4. More.....

Yes, we could start building create branches and start creating RC
candidates for the release =)

I also managed to close the release in staging repository. Artifacts can be

@Mentors, is there a formal mail template to raise a VOTE thread for apache

Today I managed to make the release and also the prepare and perform went
successful.

However, can we unblock the release process by manually updating the KEYS
[1] file for the project?

Take a look at this
http://www.apache.org/dev/new-committers-guide.html in general and
specifically at the "Security and PGP" section.
I think once you upload the key to your LDAP then we will have it to
Metamodel group key.

Hi Kasper,
I think we are getting there. It is a bit slow but I have given links
on how ASF prepare releases and been preparing MetaModel readiness for
release (vetted names, and setting up the svn distribution).
The big item left now is to make Ankit's public key shows up in the
Metamodel group key (see
http://people.apache.org/keys/group/metamodel.asc)
Ankit, have you put your key to your people.apache.org's account
under public_html directory? Kasper might be able to help you there.
Once he has it shows up, then we need to update the KEYS file in
https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/release/incubator/metamodel SVN
directory to have Ankit key so he could sign the release artifacts.

IMHO, a conference call is probably not the right place to start. It is
important that we discuss issues on the mailing list so that everyone can
participate and we have a record of how we overcame specific challenges.
Instead, why don't you create a bulleted list of all the current issues and
what questions you have. If after reviewing that, we still think a call is
necessary, we can have one and then bring the results back to the list.
We should also be creating our own release management documentation with
all of the metamodel specific nuances.

Hi guys,
I think this is starting to really taking too long, and Ankit and I are not
that experienced in the Apache INFRA and it feels like we're just wasting
time on small technicalities. Are there any experienced Apache mentors or
RE's that would be able to spend like 20 minutes in a conference call with
either of us to guide us through it...? Would that be a way forward to get
the first release out?

Never mind I look at the wrong directory, it should have been

I see Kasper key now. Missing Ankit's key.
Ankit, have you upload your pgp public key to your
people.apache.org/~<your username> ?
I need to manually add copy the key to
https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/release/incubator/metamodel/KEYS
I will do this one I see Ankit's key show up in
http://people.apache.org/keys/group/metamodel.asc

You need to publish the pgp key file to your public directory under
people.apache.org/~<your username> per guidance [1]
It will be used to populate metamodel pgp key at this url [2]

I have filed JIRA ticket to create Nexus Maven staging repo for us:
