Cookies & Sessions with Tomcat 3.0?

I'm having problems getting cookies & sessions working in my
setup, and read in the faq at

that none of the examples even work.  Anyone have any idea why?
Better yet, does anyone have any fixes or an ETA on when sessions
will be implemented properly in a future release of Tomcat?

They're pretty crucial to developing web apps these days...!
