Out of Heap Space

Hi,

I'm trying to compile a large number of java files and I keep getting this

That was me throwing a suggestion, I just set it to an insanely large number
once and forget about it :-)

1 Gigabyte to compile something?? There is definitely something wrong.
Isn't it?

The nice thing about AntWrap is that it uses the same block structure as the
XML definition, the do/end are the equivalent of opening/closing tags.

Re: Ant

Thanks. I tried what you wrote but I keep getting syntax errors with regard
to the end. So I went back to basics

The following gives no syntax errors

  ant("panopticode") do |ant| # <<- yield the ant wrapper IIRC
    ant.echo :message=>"Lanuching Panopticode"
    ant.javadoc :classpath=>artifact(PANOPTICODE), :sourcepath=>"source",
:access=>"private"
  end

However as soon as I try a nested tag in the javadoc I get errors:

  ant("panopticode") do |ant| # <<- yield the ant wrapper IIRC
    ant.echo :message=>"Lanuching Panopticode"
    ant.javadoc :classpath=>artifact(PANOPTICODE), :sourcepath=>"source",
:access=>"private"
      ant.fileset :dir=>"source", :includes=>"**/*.java"
  end

Or even

  ant("panopticode") do |ant| # <<- yield the ant wrapper IIRC
    ant.echo :message=>"Lanuching Panopticode"
    ant.javadoc :classpath=>artifact(PANOPTICODE), :sourcepath=>"source",
:access=>"private"
      ant.fileset :dir=>"source", :includes=>"**/*.java"
    end
  end

Or

  ant("panopticode") do |ant| # <<- yield the ant wrapper IIRC
    ant.echo :message=>"Lanuching Panopticode"
    ant.javadoc :classpath=>artifact(PANOPTICODE), :sourcepath=>"source",
:access=>"private" {
      ant.fileset :dir=>"source", :includes=>"**/*.java"
    }
  end

Ok I think I understand now, the fileset needs an end as well. I'm still
learning basic ruby :)

task :panopticode do

Err, each ant tag must be instantiated as a call to the yielded "ant"
object, see ant.param, ant.doclet

task :panopticodeDoclet do
 ant("panopticodedoclet") do |ant| # <<- yield the ant wrapper IIRC
   ant.javadoc :classpath=>artifact(PANOPTICODE),
:sourcepath=>source,access=>"private"
     ant.fileset :dir=>source, :includes=>"**/*.java"
      ant.doclet :name=>"org.panopticode.doclet.PanopticodeDoclet",

       ant.param :name=>"-projectName", :value=>"coredn"
       ant.param :name=>"-projectVersion", :value=>VERSION
       ant.param :name=>"-outputFile", :value=>" panopticode.xml"
     end
   end
end

Re: Ant

You mostly get it, :D
The ant method yield an ant wrapper, so you execute ant("something") only
once, kindof builder does for xml.

task :panopticodeDoclet do
 ant("panopticodedoclet") do |ant| # <<- yield the ant wrapper IIRC
   ant.javadoc :classpath=>artifact(PANOPTICODE),
:sourcepath=>source,access=>"private"
     fileset :dir=>source, :includes=>"**/*.java"
     doclet :name=>"org.panopticode.doclet.PanopticodeDoclet",
:path=>artifact(PANOPTICODE)
       param :name=>"-debug", :value=>"true"
       param :name=>"-projectName", :value=>"coredn"
       param :name=>"-projectVersion", :value=>VERSION
       param :name=>"-outputFile", :value=>"panopticode.xml"
     end
   end
end

There's a javadoc task already in buildr, see Java::Commands.javadoc, you
may also want to take a look at it.

Re: Ant

This is as far as I got so far, I'm still trying to understand how antwrap
works and buildr wraps antwrap.

task :panopticodeDoclet do
  ant("panopticodedoclet") do |javadoc|
    ant.javadoc :classpath=>artifact(PANOPTICODE), :sourcepath=>source,
access=>"private"
      fileset :dir=>source, :includes=>"**/*.java"
      doclet :name=>"org.panopticode.doclet.PanopticodeDoclet",

        param :name=>"-debug", :value=>"true"
        param :name=>"-projectName", :value=>"coredn"
        param :name=>"-projectVersion", :value=>VERSION
        param :name=>"-outputFile", :value=>"panopticode.xml"
      end
    end
end

Ant

I'd like to use panopticode with Buildr so I'm looking to the following:

How would I convert this into an Buildr Ant call?

                <javadoc classpath="@{panopticodeDir}/panopticode.jar"
                         sourcepath="@{srcDir}"
                         access="private">
                  <fileset dir="@{srcDir}" />
                  <doclet name="org.panopticode.doclet.PanopticodeDoclet"
                          path="@{panopticodeDir}/panopticode.jar">
                    <param name="-debug" value="true" />
                    <param name="-projectName" value="@{projectName}" />
                    <param name="-projectVersion" value="@{projectVersion}"
/>
                    <param name="-outputFile"
value="@{outputDir}/panopticode.xml" />
                  </doclet>
                </javadoc>

There's no support for group selection for TestNG in the code, doesn't look
too complicated to add, if you're willing to give it a try.

TestNG

How do I specify only running certain test categories (a.k.a groups) via
TestNG?

Right now I have groups of tests e.g. unit-test, integration-test,
functional-test

Here's an example method in one of my test classes:

public class WrapperTest
{

   @Test (groups = {"unit-test"})
   public void Single() throws Exception
   {

Re: Out of Heap Space

Posted by Neil Lott <ne...@twcable.com>.
Hi Assaf,

On the Mac at least I tried below and I kept getting an error:

[neil@flicker.local build]$ export JAVA_OPTS=-Xms1g
[neil@flicker.local build]$ coredn
[neil@flicker.local coredn]$ buildr
(in
/Users/neil/Business/SnowyRangeConsulting/projects/twc/depot/server/releases
/main/products/coredn)
Error occurred during initialization of VM
Incompatible initial and maximum heap sizes specified
Abort trap

So I changed it to:

[neil@flicker.local build]$ echo $JAVA_OPTS
-Xms1g -Xmx1g

And it worked.

Thanks.

Neil

You can give the JVM more heap space by setting the JAVA_OPTS environment
variables. All these options are passed to the JVM, so something like:

export JAVA_OPTS=-Xms1g
buildr compile

Assaf
