The Delete taskdef- will it become a directory based task?

Sorry for a newbie question- will Delete become a directory based task in
the near future. I prefer to compile classes into the same directories as
the source, and would like to have a "clean" target that deleted all the
classes recursively from a certain directory.

It is - and has been for a couple of weeks actually. You can either
use one of the nightly builds or wait for the next release of Ant
scheduled for next week (isn't it?).
