How to know if project has run?
Hi,
The Cactus Gump module has several projects. One of them does not have
an <ant> tag because they don't build anything. This subproject delivers
the outputs generated by the other projects. The reason for this is that
we would like to published our nightly builds only if all the projects
succeed.
FYI, here is our definition:
<project name="jakarta-cactus-release-12">
<!-- Only release if the projects have built successfully -->
<depend project="jakarta-cactus-framework-12"/>
<depend project="jakarta-cactus-sample-servlet-12"/>
<depend project="jakarta-cactus-integration-ant-12"/>
<depend project="jakarta-cactus-integration-eclipse-12"/>
<deliver fromdir="framework/release-12" tosite="jakarta.apache.org"
todir="builds/jakarta-cactus/nightly/@@DATE@@/" />
<deliver fromdir="integration/ant/release-12"
tosite="jakarta.apache.org"
todir="builds/jakarta-cactus/nightly/@@DATE@@/" />
<deliver fromdir="integration/eclipse/release-12"
tosite="jakarta.apache.org"
todir="builds/jakarta-cactus/nightly/@@DATE@@/" />
<deliver fromdir="samples/servlet/release-12"
tosite="jakarta.apache.org"
todir="builds/jakarta-cactus/nightly/@@DATE@@/" />
</project>
My questions are:
1/ How do I debug this (i.e. how do I know why the <deliver> tag has not
worked)? I can't find any page on the Gump dashboard page that shows the
execution log for projects that have no build nor for the deliver tag.
2/ Is this definition correct? For example, will the <depend> tag work
even if there is no <ant> tag? If not, how can I only release if all
other projects have built successfully?
Note: I have checked on
http://cvs.apache.org/builds/jakarta-cactus/nightly/ and nothing has
been delivered for a while.
Thanks

+1 to both :-)

Sure, that's why you can define which "site" you are willing to
deliver to on a per workspace basis.
The currently defined sites for daedalus are far too coarse-grained,
especially since I didn't update them when the nightly builds moved
over to icarus.
With a little tweaking it should be possible to enable uploading to
the nightly builds area on cvs.apache.org but nowhere else.
We could as well make the workspace explicitly list which project's
deliver tags it is willing to follow, doesn't look that difficult (but
still too much to do if nobody will use it 8-).

Ok. So it means you're not using the deliver-local.sh script but your
own one. Could you update it to distribute the Cactus deliverables?
The following files need to be delivered:
<deliver fromdir="anttasks/release" tosite="jakarta.apache.org"
todir="builds/jakarta-cactus/nightly/@@DATE@@/" />
<deliver fromdir="documentation/release" tosite="jakarta.apache.org"
todir="builds/jakarta-cactus/nightly/@@DATE@@/" />
<deliver fromdir="framework/release-12" tosite="jakarta.apache.org"
todir="builds/jakarta-cactus/nightly/@@DATE@@/" />
<deliver fromdir="integration/ant/release-12"
tosite="jakarta.apache.org"
todir="builds/jakarta-cactus/nightly/@@DATE@@/" />
<deliver fromdir="integration/eclipse/release-12"
tosite="jakarta.apache.org"
todir="builds/jakarta-cactus/nightly/@@DATE@@/" />
<deliver fromdir="samples/servlet/release-12"
tosite="jakarta.apache.org"
todir="builds/jakarta-cactus/nightly/@@DATE@@/" />
<deliver fromdir="framework/release-13" tosite="jakarta.apache.org"
todir="builds/jakarta-cactus/nightly/@@DATE@@/" />
<deliver fromdir="integration/ant/release-13"
tosite="jakarta.apache.org"
todir="builds/jakarta-cactus/nightly/@@DATE@@/" />
<deliver fromdir="integration/eclipse/release-13"
tosite="jakarta.apache.org"
todir="builds/jakarta-cactus/nightly/@@DATE@@/" />
<deliver fromdir="samples/servlet/release-13"
tosite="jakarta.apache.org"
todir="builds/jakarta-cactus/nightly/@@DATE@@/" />
Is it possible to support the following strategy:
* The anttasks/release file are delivered if the jakarta-cactus-anttasks
project has built successfully
* The documentation/release file are delivered if the
jakarta-cactus-documentation project has built successfully
* The */release-12 files are delivered only if jakarta-cactus-*-12
projects have built successfully
* The */release-13 files are delivered only if jakarta-cactus-*-13
projects have built successfully
Thanks

Things that aren't executed have no execution log. The best I can
suggest is to turn on nagging for "Missing prereq".

Background as to why this is: I am scared to set things up so that
people can get things to be uploaded to any location that I have update
accesss to on ASF servers simply by checking something into cvs.

Oh ok! I thought Sam was running this deliver-local.sh on the Gump
machines. Thus it means Sam must be running a shell script of his own,
right?

I have been using it since the first time your committed it! :-)
However, this was on a local intranet.

<deliver> doesn't do anything at all. gen.sh creates a shell script
deliver-local.hs that needs to be run after the Gump run has
completed. It does not take any build failures (neither of the
project nor of any of its dependencies into account).

<deliver> is still mostly undocumented. Probably because nobody apart
from myself uses it 8-)
