New logos

Hi,
I am trying to create new logos for site relaunch.

Please review and comment on
https://issues.apache.org/jira/secure/attachment/12845131/polygene1.png
https://issues.apache.org/jira/secure/attachment/12845132/Screenshot_20161230_090035.png

I will take a stab at other variants once I get these two sorted out.

Cheers

Hi Niclas,

The logo design looks really good, and the drawing is good quality.

However, I'm not sure if the bowl of steaming rice makes any sense
anymore with project called "Polygene" (it DID make a lot of sense with
Qi4j, and at least somewhat with Zest too).
How about some multiple various tree sprawls or saplings?

I would make a scetch myself, but I have absolutely zero artistic
talent, so... :)

Quite nice looking logo, Paul!

I've did a little of drawing after all - something like this was on my
mind: http://imgur.com/mcDlYFN .
The problem might be is that it looks probably more like some
environmental organization's logo, but maybe this might be a good
starting point for some design guru. :)

All,
4 years ago I ran a design contest at 99designs, and received a lot of good
submissions, and very quickly. I have invited the 6 finalists to help us
out, either for $100 or bragging rights, but not both. I'll pay the $100 if
we get something useful. I will post the submissions on the Jira issue
POLYGENE-204.

Cheers
Niclas

Hi guys,

see my proposal attached.

The idea is to say - Apache Polygene is the DNA of a modern application :-)

Polygene offers fragments (mixings, etc) that can be structured in such a
way, so that larger and complex objects can be constract.

It will make people immediately curious and therefore also a good marketing
channel.

Cheers,
jj

I really like Pauls idea (and prototype logo) with the double-helix. I
had a similar thought,
to just replace the two red strokes (the vapour) with a double-helix in
the current logo.

Re: New logos

Posted by Paul Merlin <pa...@apache.org>.
Hi Niclas,

I second Stanislav, we need a new logo.

But we can get polygene.apache.org up online without it, simply reusing
the old logo for now.

The logo we display on the home page is comprised of two images:
http://zest.apache.org/graphics/Qi4j-Logo-Symbol.png
http://zest.apache.org/graphics/Apache-Zest-Logo-Text.png

As a first step, we can just replace the second one to change the
project name.
We'll also need to change the ones present in the documentation mini-sites.

Niclas, if you could replace graphics/Apache-Zest-Logo-Text.png withyour
change in the SVN repo for zest.apache.org that would be cool.

I'll do the rest as part of handling gitpubsub and so on.

About the new logo

Here's a sketch I did very quickly reusing a public domain clip art of a
DNA strand, there are so many of them:

https://issues.apache.org/jira/secure/attachment/12845170/polygene2.png

I'm not found of it but it shows that it's easy to make sense of the
name visually. We could find an illustration of something more related
to composition in the genetics field.

/Paul
