[Bug 121055] New: Copying and pasting a paragraph with a hyperlink breaks fonts.

https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=121055

          Priority: P3
            Bug ID: 121055
          Assignee: ooo-issues@incubator.apache.org
Summary: Copying and pasting a paragraph with a hyperlink
                    breaks fonts.
          Severity: normal
        Issue Type: DEFECT
    Classification: Application
                OS: Windows 7
          Reporter: thealmightyguru@gmail.com
          Hardware: PC
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
           Version: AOO 3.4.1
         Component: editing
           Product: word processor

1.) Launch OpenOffice.org Writer.
2.) Go to Tools -> AutoCorrect Options -> Options and make Make sure that URL
recognition is turned on.
3.) Type the following: "I'm making a hyperkink to http://www.google.com, but
the font just switched."
4.) Highlight all the text and switch the font to Verdana.
5.) Highlight all the text and click Edit -> Copy.
6.) Launch OpenOffice.org Calc.
7.) Highlight the first cell, and click Edit -> Paste.
8.) The pasted result will fail to maintain the font change after the
hyperlink. This bug also seems to affect Unicode characters before the
hyperlink. The word "I'm" will switch to "I知".

This happens to other word processors as well like Microsoft WordPad.

I am using Open Office version 3.41 on a Windows Vista machine (64-bit). I was
able to replicate the bug using the following steps (similar to original post;
used hot keys instead of accessing through "File"):

1.) Launch OpenOffice.org Writer
2.) Navigate to "Tools -> AutoCorrect Options -> Options" and turn on the "URL
recognition" option
3.) Type the following text "I'm making a hyperlink to http://www.google.com,
but font is not the same"
4.) Change all of the text to "Verdana"
5.) Copy the text by "Ctrl-C"
6.) Open a OpenOffice Calc
7.) Click the first cell and go "Ctrl-V" to paste
8.) The text after the hyperlink does not change to Verdana as was specified in
step number 4.

This is an important bug to fix as this is a very important cross function
feature. This could be an integral part of an everyday busy user's daily tasks.
As long as this bug is still unfixed, it could be detrimental to the client's
daily tasks.

I successfully replicated the bug.

I'm using Open Office version 3.4.1 Build 9593, with Mac OS X Mountain Lion
10.8.2

I wrote the text "I'm making a hyperlink to http://www.google.com" in Writer. I
then changed the font to Verdana, and then I copied and pasted the text into
Calc, and the font was changed.

To verify the bug, I wrote the same text in Microsoft Word, and then copied the
text into Calc, and the font did NOT change.

To further verify the bug, I also pasted the text from Writer into TextEdit,
the system default text editor for OS X, and the font became corrupted as well,
in the EXACT same manner as in Calc.

Therefore, the issue is definitely with Writer.

I was also able to replicate this bug using the steps listed. I also tested
another font, Times New Roman and produced the same results as before. The Text
before the hyperlink maintains the font from Writer to Calc, but the hyperlink
and everything after it changes to the Courier New font.

>From the original instructions:
(I added notes under some other the steps)
1.) Launch OpenOffice.org Writer.
2.) Go to Tools -> AutoCorrect Options -> Options and make Make sure that URL
recognition is turned on.
  - I was able to replicate the bug with and without this step
3.) Type the following: "I'm making a hyperkink to http://www.google.com, but
the font just switched."
4.) Highlight all the text and switch the font to Verdana.
  - I also tried Times New Roman font.
5.) Highlight all the text and click Edit -> Copy.
  - I used Ctrl-C
6.) Launch OpenOffice.org Calc.
7.) Highlight the first cell, and click Edit -> Paste.
  - I used Ctrl-V
  - I also was able to replicate the bug in different cells besides A1

I agree with everyone else on here about the severity of this bug. Not being
able to maintain the style of text from one app to another, (in the same
software suite no less) can make it difficult to have consistency between
documents and spreadsheets that support one another.

I'm able to replicate this bug using 3.4.1 (Build 9593) on Windows 7. From
comment 6, I also tried copying the line from Writer into other programs. I
found that if I copy the line from OOo Writer into Microsoft Office Word 2010,
then copy the line from Word 2010 into OOo Calc, the font is maintained but the
hyperlink disappears completely. Thought this might be helpful, it appears to
be a similar problem.

using build 9593 writer and calc

I was ONLY able to replicate this bug by copying from OpenOffice Writer to Open
Office Calc. Copy pasting text from other sources (Thunderbird email, web pages
using google chrome, Microsoft WordPad) worked just fine, even though WordPad
also did url recognition.

When copy pasting from OpenOffice Writer to OpenOffice Calc, text font is lost
at the url (unless font changes at the beginning of the url), and all further
pasted text uses the url's font until the next change in font.

EXCEPTION: If font changes in the middle of the url in OpenOffice Writer, then
all pasted text in OpenOffice Calc after the url up to next font change is lost
(not copied over), so after the url the pasted text continues at the next font
change point (if any).

This might be tied to the fact that OpenOffice Calc treats urls more like
objects containing uniform font rather than as rich text.

The font switches to Verdana but the "I'm" does not switch to "I知" as expected.

Tested on:
Win7 SP1 64bits (AOO 341m1 - B9593 - R 1372282)

I was also able to replicate this bug, using OpenOffice version 3.4.1 build
9593 on the Windows 7 operating system.

I opened Writer and made sure the URL recognition was on under the autocorrect
options. I then typed the following sentence "I'm making a hyperlink to
http://www.google.com, but the font just switched." changed the font to
Verdana, copied it and pasted it into Calc and the font had changed.

Since the user above was using Mac OS X, I tried writing the same text in
Microsoft Word on my Windows 7 machine and had the same exact result, that it
properly transferred the font and it did not change.

I also attempted to copy the text from Writer and pasted it into a WordPad
document since NotePad does not allow for hyperlinks. When pasting it in
WordPad the font also changed similarly to when it was pasted in the Calc
document.

This further proves the problem being within Writer, this bug inconveniences
the user who happens to be using both programs to work on a document or
project.

I successfully replicated the bug on Windows 7 OS.
I am using Open Office version 3.4.1 build 9593.
I opened office and confirmed URL recognition was activated.
I wrote the text "Hello how are you www.good.com Hello how are you" changed it
to Verdana and then copied and pasted into Calc, the font after the hyperlink
changed to some kind of default font, however the font before the hyperlink
stayed Verdana.
Then I wrote the text "Hello how are you www.good.com Hello how are you" but
this time I changed the preceding "Hello how are you" font to Verdana and
changed the proceeding "Hello how are you" font to Arial. I then copied and
pasted into Calc, the font after the hyperlink this time kept it's true font
type Arial as did the font before the hyperlink stayed at Verdana.
This is a bug in Writer and would be an inconvenience to customers who would
like to use both Writer and Calc to do perform desired work.
