start geronimo in profiling mode
Hi,
I am trying to start geronimo from eclipse in profiling mode. I have added
geronimo to the servers and can start/stop it from eclipse. But when I try
to start it in the profiling mode I get a dialog with an empty monitor tab.
I am using geronimo 2.1.3 and tried as well the jetty as tomcat.
When I use tomcat 6 i.s.o. tomcat starting in profiling mode show me a fille
monitor tab as I expect.
Can anyone help me with this issue or is it nit possible at all, or can
anyone provide me with alternatives ?
Kind regards,
Marco Laponder

RE: Geronimo Error

Thank you! Once I changed up the properties file, it worked well. The interesting thing is that I originally had an error with the RMI port but the error message was much better. It basically said that the 1099 port was in use.

Hi Russell,
Looks like you've got a conflict on port 1050 (the default COS Naming
port address). By default, Geronimo will use the following ports:
Listening on Ports:
1050 0.0.0.0 CORBA Naming Service
1099 0.0.0.0 RMI Naming
1527 0.0.0.0 Derby Connector
2001 0.0.0.0 OpenEJB ORB Adapter
4201 0.0.0.0 OpenEJB Daemon
6882 0.0.0.0 OpenEJB ORB Adapter
8009 0.0.0.0 Tomcat Connector AJP AJP
8080 0.0.0.0 Tomcat Connector HTTP BIO HTTP
8443 0.0.0.0 Tomcat Connector HTTPS BIO HTTPS
9999 0.0.0.0 JMX Remoting Connector
61613 0.0.0.0 ActiveMQ Transport Connector
61616 0.0.0.0 ActiveMQ Transport Connector
You can either stop (or reconfigure) the process on your system that
is already using port 1050. Or, you can customize the Geronimo port
numbers by editing the file var/config/config-substitutions.properties
where you'll find hopefully helpful properties like:
COSNamingPort=1050
NamingPort=1099
...
Would be nice if we could get more reasonable error messages for this
type of issue -- even suggest on ways to fix the problem. Feel free to
raise a Jira!

Russell,
BTW, one favor -- when starting a new discussion thread (e.g.
"Geronimo Error"). Please use "New Message" or the equivalent on your
email client. Pretty sure that you used "Reply". Some email clients
(e.g. mine ;-) will now group this discussion thread with the previous
discussion thread (i.e. "start geronimo in profiling mode"). It's
called "thread hijacking" and is pretty minor in the scheme of
things... Not picking your out, you're far from the first... ;-) I
just pass the advice along from time to time.

I don't know how profiler configuration works within Eclipse. However,
does seem that Geronimo Eclipse Plugin doesn't support profile
configuration (at least it's different from Tomcat server). TPTP
doesn't seem to be supported on Mac OS.
Hoping that somebody more familiar with Eclipse can have a look...

I am using the TPTP from eclipse for the profiling. However I cannot start
geronimo in profiling at all. If there any other (open source/freeware)
tools which work with Geronimo that is no problem for me. However I think it
would be nice if Geronimo applciation could be profiled using TPTP.
Kind regards,

Can't say that I've ever run profiling from with Eclipse. What
profiler are you using?
