Testing 10.2.0.2 Snapshot
Derbyall
********
Results from our testing on the 10.2.0.2 snapshots are now available at
http://www.multinet.no/~solberg/public/Apache/index.html#TenTwoZeroSnapshots
.
"Derbyall" platforms: see
http://www.multinet.no/~solberg/public/Apache/10.2.0.2_Snapshot/TenTwoZeroTwoTestPlatforms.html
.
Additional tests
****************
Large Data Volume:
-----------------
OS: Solaris 10 1/06 s10x_u1wos_19a X86 64bits
JVM: Sun 1.5.0
We have used the DOTS* ATCJ2(auction simulation) schema and a database
filled to ~236Gb raw disk space.
The three ATCJ2 tables contain ~427 million, ~280 million and ~2
million tuples.
Tests on this volume includes
- table consistency check(SYSCS_UTIL.SYSCS_CHECK_TABLE()).
- aggregate queries on these tables.
- backup/recovery tests:
- SYSCS_BACKUP_DATABASE_AND_ENABLE_LOG_ARCHIVE_MODE()
backup on this volume,
with concurrent load(ATCJ2) on the database.
- "rollForwardRecovery" of the database after
having run the DOTS ATCJ2 for 12 hrs.
No issues seen.
JDBC 3.0 Compatibility Test Suite (CTS)**:
----------------------------------------
OS: SunOS 5.10_64 ix86, Linux 2.6.9-34.ELsmp_64 ix86.
JVM: Sun 1.5.0
Using Sun Java System Application Server Platform Edition 8.1 2005Q1
(8.1_02).
4932 tests executed, no errors.
* DOTS: see http://ltp.sourceforge.net/dotshowto.php ,
http://db.apache.org/derby/integrate/DOTS_Derby.htm ,
http://db.apache.org/derby/binaries/UsingDotsDerbySystemTest.pdf .
We have adapted DOTS to also run on other OS's than Linux.
** JDBC 3.0 CTS is part of the J2EE Technology Compatibility Kit (TCK).

I ran the derbyall with ibm15 on AIX and encountered all the errors you
have mentioned. Also my system tests caught DERBY-1280, which is a show
stopper for the system tests since the test looses the connection to the
database .

I could not run the test with the -Xjit count=0 option since my table

I ran derbyall with this 10.2.0.2 snapshot on Linux with a 64bit IBM
jvm, versions 1.4.2 and 1.5. With 1.5, I ran once in the default mode,
and once with the jit always 'on' (-Xjit:count=0).
Looking at our nightly testing with 32 bit jvms on windows it does not
seem likely additional trouble will be found with the updated
snapshot, so I'm not redoing that testing, but posting the findings
here.
Issues encountered were either jvm or test harness related (with one
possible exception):
================
ibm.1.4.2
- with ibm1.4.2, minor issue regarding wording of security permissions
errors; 'Access' vs. 'access' in Sun jvms. I've been told this is a
known issue with the jvm vendor. We could add sed-ing to the tests
affected so this doesn't show up anymore...
- hang in unit/cacheService.unit with ibm1.4.2 64 bit jvm only
I need to further analyze this.
ibm1.5
- IBM jvm 1.5. JIT causes incorrect results in calculations, leading
to very large numbers. This can be seen for instance in the results
from runtimestatistics (see also DERBY-1221) or result in too big
identity column numbers (see DERBY-1327).
The issue has been reported to the jvm team and preliminary info
indicates both these behaviors have the same underlying jit problem.
This issue is not limited to the 64bit jvm.
- derbynetmats testing fails because of an extra jvm line getting
generated when calling the db2jcc code: > JVMJ9VM034E jvmri requires
trace engine: run with -Xtrace flag
This issue has been reported to the jvm vendor/developers. This
behavior is specific to 64 bit jvms.
- IBM 1.5. jvm is more aggressive in garbage collecting, resulting in
fewer error conditions encountered. This has been reported to the jvm
vendor/developers.

Finally, note that it was not possible to successfully run the upgrade
suite with this jit setting because the test harness currently cannot
pass 2 jvmflags (see DERBY-1091), and we'd need to pass both
derbyTesting.jar.path and -Xjit:count=0.

Yes, this is the case (A slip in our setup...).
We'll fix this for the next snapshot test.

In the results, I see that upgrade test is failing on all platforms
with the snapshot. This could be because the location of old version
jar files is not passed in when running the tests. testing/README.htm
file (Section 4.12, derbyTesting.jar.path property) has some details
on this. Just wondering if this could be the case ?
Thanks,
