cTAkes and UMLS license clarification

Hi,

I have certain clarification regarding cTakes license. Can we cTakes for
commerical products for organizations ? I know cTakes comes under Apache
license. Since cTakes also UMLS, will there be any conflict in using it for
organizations.

Regards,
Prasanna

If you decide to bundle umls, I would suggest verifying with the umls team - they do provide a rest service to validate users license.

Hi,

Thanks for your response. We want to bundle cTakes with UMLS resources and make it available for commercial packages. But in UMLS license agreement, they have clearly mentioned it is available for non-commercial purpose and available for individuals. Should I have to pay the cost for using UMLS for commercial purpose ?

Prasanna

Prasanna,
Yes. As per ASL 2.0, you can certainly include/embed Apache cTAKES in commercial products. The actual cTAKES UMLS resources are a separate download.
Feel free to let us know if you have any questions/concerns.
